Buckwheat hulls offer many benefits. They have anti-dust mite and antibacterial properties and emit a pleasant, soothing scent that promotes relaxation. Additionally, the shape of the hulls helps regulate temperature, providing extra comfort. They are also ergonomic, offering good support, and the amount of hulls can be adjusted to suit the sleeper's needs. Unlike other types of filling materials that need to be replaced quickly over time, buckwheat hulls last much longer. A simple wash is enough to refresh them! When they reach the end of their lifespan (which can be around ten years or more), the hulls can be composted. Our pillows are, therefore, a smart choice for the planet.

When designing our pillows, they were approved by a team of chiropractors. Our mini pillows measure 10 inches by 16 inches and are designed for children aged 2 to 5 years.

Our large pillow is 20 inches by 16 inches. All our pillows come with a zipper, allowing you to adjust them by adding or removing hulls. This way, you can customize your pillow to match your favorite sleeping position or preference for a firmer or lighter pillow.

It can also be adapted for children from 6 years old and up, to follow them as they grow up. Take out some of the buckwheat hulls, keep them in a jar and add put them back in the pillow as your child grows or based on their comfort.

Since our pillows have a metal zipper, it is not possible to put them in the microwave.

Additionally, buckwheat hulls do not retain heat, so they are not the right type of grain for a 'magic bag' product. However, this makes them an excellent material for a pillow that stays cool throughout the night!

Our mini pillows are designed for little ones aged 24 months to around 5 years, depending on their needs. Since every child is different, the best indicator will be the child who owns it. If you're wondering whether your child might need a pillow, watch how they sleep. If they place a blanket or stuffed animal under their head at bedtime, it might be the right time to introduce a pillow into their bed for a more comfortable and restful night's sleep.

Before 24 months
For little ones who experience reflux, the Maovic MP mini pillow becomes a must-have. Simply place it under your child’s head and upper body to provide a stable incline that can help reduce reflux, which is often a major source of discomfort. Our pillows are also frequently used on changing tables to make diaper changes more comfortable. They can even be used during supervised naps.

Other uses for our mini pillows
Many of you purchase a Maovic mini pillow for your own needs, as it provides excellent lumbar support when working at the computer, during travel, or while watching TV. It's also the perfect travel pillow for airplanes, as its compact size makes it easy to transport without compromising on comfort.

Unlike other materials used as pillow stuffing, buckwheat hulls are durable and resilient. They may lose about 10% of their volume over time but have a lifespan of at least 10 years.

New Closure for Decorative Pillow Covers

Since 2022, we've made a slight update to our decorative pillow covers. The side zipper has been replaced by an envelope-style closure on the back. The cover size remains unchanged and still fits perfectly on the Maovic pillows you already own.

To prevent children from accessing the buckwheat hulls inside, we’ve adapted the zippers on our pillows. For mini pillows sold after March 1, 2022, the zipper no longer has a pull tab, making it impossible for little hands to open. If you need to open the pillow, simply slide a paperclip into the zipper slider to use as a temporary pull, then remove it when you're done.

How to Adapt Your Mini Pillow
If you purchased a Maovic pillow before March 1, 2022, you can remove the zipper pull using pliers. Once it's removed, your pillow will be safe and ready for use with our new covers.

Health Canada Recommendations

Health Canada recommends adding items to a child's bed only from 24 months onward for safety reasons. Our mini pillows are designed for children aged 24 months to about 5 years, depending on their needs.

Never leave a child unattended with Mini Totem products. Our designs contain small parts that could pose a choking or strangulation risk if misused. Babies should always be supervised by an adult when using Mini Totem products. All our products meet the quality and safety standards set by Health Canada.

Completely empty the pillow of its buckwheat hulls before placing the unbleached cotton cover in the washing machine. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry on low heat. To easily refill the cover with the hulls, use a funnel or create one with a sheet of paper.

Our decorative covers are machine washable and can be tumble dried on low heat (turn inside out for washing).

Our waterproof covers are made of PUL. They can be machine washed in cold water. It’s best to air dry them to extend their lifespan.

To refresh the buckwheat hulls, place them in the sun. They will heat up and naturally disinfect. To easily refill the cover with the hulls, you can use a funnel or make one from a sheet of paper.

Spill on the pillow? Wash the buckwheat hulls with mild soap, rinse thoroughly, and spread them out to dry completely before putting them back in the pillow. To protect your Maovic pillow from spills, our waterproof covers are ideal.

Buckwheat hulls have a lifespan of about 10 years. After that time, they can be composted. Need to replace your hulls? You can find them right here."
