A Fall Family Tradition: Apple Picking and More

A Fall Family Tradition: Apple Picking and More
By Melissa Panich - @mamanoftroischats

Fall is here, and that means one thing: the beloved family apple-picking outing! Whether it’s for the perfect photo op, filling your baskets with apples, or whipping up delicious recipes afterward, these trips create magical days and lasting memories for everyone. For us, the ideal spot is a place that not only offers apple picking but also has a petting zoo, a playground, and pumpkins, so we can enjoy all the fall fun in one stop!

This year, we discovered our local orchard, and it completely stole our hearts. Chickens, apple trees, pies, jams, and honey—everything you need to fill your pantry with little joys of the season.

Fun Apple Craft for Kids

To bring some extra fun to your apple experience, here’s a simple apple-themed craft that your kids will love!

What you’ll need:

  • Apples
  • Paint
  • White paper and paintbrushes

Start by cutting the apples in half or quarters. Apply paint to the inside of the apple and use the fruit to stamp fun shapes onto the white paper. Mix and match colors to create different designs. Once dry, let your little artists use paintbrushes to add stems and leaves to complete their apple masterpieces.

And there you have it—a charming, homemade decoration, made with love!

Sweet and Simple Apple Nachos Recipe

To wrap things up, here’s a family-friendly recipe that will satisfy your sweet tooth!

Cooking is one of those activities that can quickly turn into family fun at our house. But things can get a little chaotic when my two older kids want to taste and touch everything! So, to keep it simple, here’s our go-to snack that everyone can help with. Plus, each child gets to cut their own apples!

Apple Nachos

  • 5 to 10 apples
  • 1 cup of peanut butter or caramel
  • Chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Slice the apples into quarters.
  2. Heat the peanut butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds.
  3. Drizzle the peanut butter over the apples.
  4. Sprinkle with chocolate chips!

That’s it—easy, quick, and delicious. Enjoy!

Bon appétit!
